How the Library Works
2021-22

Welcome back to the Library, Sharks!

Due to the Covid situation, the Library has to work differently this year, but we are working hard to help make your year a great one!

How can I get help or information about the Library?
  • Talk to Ms. Shearer (Librarian) or Mrs. Calvert (Library Technician) in the Library
  • Go to the Library website:  www.stevestonlondonlibrary.ca to access the Library catalogue, databases, encyclopedias, and much more.
  • E-mail questions to SLSS.Library@sd38.bc.ca
  • For Library news and new books, check us out on Instagram:  @slss_library

When is the Library open?
  • 8:00-3:30 every day, including lunch and PLT.

What should I do to keep everyone in the Library safe?
  • Please wear a mask at all times.
  • Please sanitize your hands on the way in.
  • Please keep a common sense distance from others in the Library.
  • If you use a computer, laptop or other device, clean it with a soft cloth sprayed with quat.
Thank you for helping to protect our school community!

What should I bring to the Library?
  • Your Go-Card (if you have one).
  • Your Go-Card student number (if you don't).

When can I go to the Library on my own?
  • Come to the Library during class time to choose a book, use the printer/photocopier, or work independently.  You need to bring a note from your teacher.
  • Visit the Library before class, at lunch or after school without a note.
  • If you are a Grade 12 student on a study block, please sign in and out next to the printer.
  • For PLT, sign up for independent study or a Library workshop on My Weekly Planner.

What can I do in the Library?
  • Look for and sign out a book or pick up a book that you have on hold.
  • Use the computers (6 desktops and 3 laptops) and the printer/photocopier for coursework and book searches.  Printing and photocopying costs 10 cents per side.  (One page printed on both sides costs 20 cents.)
  • Work independently or in groups (while keeping the noise level respectful).
  • Thank you for not eating or drinking in the Library.
  • To stay in the Library, you must have a chair.

How can I access Library books?
  • This year, all sections of the Library are open for you to browse:  Fiction, ELL, Graphic Novels, Popular Non-Fiction, Non-Fiction and Reference books.
  • You can have 5 books out at one time.  Most books can be signed out for 4 weeks.  Reference books may be signed out for one night only.
  • Place a hold on a book in the on-line Library catalogue.  To do this, you will need to log in to the catalogue system (User Name:  your student number; Password: your last name).  When your book comes in, we will contact you.
  • Access e-books and audio-books (streamed) on your own device through the on-line Library catalogue.  To do this, you will need to log in to the catalogue system (User Name:  your student number; Password: your last name).

How can I access other Library resources?
  • Ask Library staff for help with 3D printing and the green screen.
  • Unfortunately, most Maker Space materials are not available at this time (Covid rules).

How do I sign books out from the Library?
  • Sign-out is now touchless.  Follow directions at the Circulation Desk and be prepared to hold up your Go Card and your book(s) to the scanner.

How do I return books to the Library?
  • Place your books in the return slots at the Circulation Desk and in the main hallway.
  • Here's to a great 2021-22!  We'll see you soon!
