When is the Library open?
9:00-3:30 every day, including lunch.
What should I do to keep everyone in the Library safe?
Please wear a mask at all times.
Please sanitize your hands on the way in and out.
Please socially distance yourself from all other students and staff (unless you are with a cohorted class). Look for markers on the floor to help you.
Please sign in and out (with your own pen or pencil please).
If you handle any Library book or resource, please place it on a special cart for quarantine, not back on the shelf.
When you leave, please clean your table and chair (the plastic parts) with a wet wipe, and your computer or device with a soft cloth sprayed with quat.
Thank you for helping to protect our school community!
What should I bring to the Library?
Your Go-Card (if you have one)
A pen or pencil (to sign in and out please)
When can I go to the Library on my own?
Come to the Library during class time to choose a book, use the printer/photocopier, or work on the computers. Your teacher has to call the Library first.
Visit the Library before class, at lunch or after school. You may need to briefly line up in the hallway (socially distanced) until there is a spot for you inside. Look for footprint stickers on the floor to help you.
What can I do in the Library?
Look for and sign out a book or pick up a book that you have on hold.
Use the computers (6 stations) and the printer/photocopier for coursework and book searches. Printing and photocopying costs 10 cents per side. (One page printed on both sides costs 20 cents.)
Unfortunately, due to space limitations, the Library is not to be used for socializing or independent activity (e.g. silent reading or study without a teacher).
Thank you for not eating or drinking in the Library.
How can I access Library books?
Look in the Fiction, ELL, Graphic Novel and Popular Non-Fiction sections for books.
If you want a Non-Fiction or Reference book, ask Library staff for help.
If your teacher is ordering a reading cart for your classroom, you can request a book through your teacher.
Place a hold on a book in the on-line Library catalogue. To do this, you will need to log in to the catalogue system (User Name: your student number; Password: your last name). If your book is available, you can pick it up from the cubbies at the front of the Library the following day.
Access e-books and audio-books (streamed) on your own device through the on-line Library catalogue. To do this, you will need to log in to the catalogue system (User Name: your student number; Password: your last name).
How can I access other Library resources?
Ask Library staff for help with 3D printing and the green screen.
Unfortunately, the Maker Space and its materials are not available at this time.
How do I sign books out from the Library?
Sign-out is now touchless. Follow directions at the Circulation Desk and be prepared to hold up your Go Card and your book(s) to the scanner.
You can take books out for four weeks. Bring your books to the library to renew them.
How do I return books to the Library?
Place your books in the return slots at the Circulation Desk and in the main hallway.
If you have any other questions, ask Ms. Shearer or Mrs. Calvert in the Library, or e-mail them at SLSS.Library@sd38.bc.ca.
